Chicken Charlie's is the premier destination for all things fried, and the hands-down winner was the fried Klondike bar. My guess is that they're frozen way below the normal temperature for ice cream so they don't melt in the oil, but it was a perfect combination of hot and cold, with sweet & creamy mixed in.
This Dairy Queen in Lombard, IL had none of the current logos and wording. Instead it had a classic neon sign that looked retro but was actually vintage . . . not enough of this around today.
Inspired by Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, I make a salted butter caramel, one of my sister's favorite flavors . . . here it is churning away.
