Day 235 - Maple Leafs

Yes, I know the plural of "leaf" is "leaves," but since I was only a stone's throw from the Canadian border, I'm spelling it this way.

Day 160 - Mariposa Grove

This video clip sums up our visit to the Mariposa Grove . . . but the trees truly are spectacular. At the top is Faithful Couple, where two trees grew together so close, their trunks merged into one.

Day 157 - People I Dig

For this trip, my entire scuba group came to Yosemite; Mallik now lives in Seattle and organized our lodging in the park. He's standing here in front of the "Grizzly Giant" giant sequoia tree in Yosemite's Mariposa Grove, a tree that's 209 feet tall and is estimated to be between 1900 and 2400 years old.

Day 153 - Black Oak

The black oak trees in Yosemite seem to have a yellowish tinge to their leaves.

Day 147 - Texture

This bark almost shredded like well-made barbecue . . .

Day 146 - Texture

Another tree, another completely different bark texture.

Day 145 - Texture

I love the texture on this grizzled old tree trunk.

Day 84 - Blossoms

Mike and Janelle have a tangelo tree in their backyard, and it's so prolific, they eat their fill and still have boxes to give away. And after seeing the number of blossoms on the tree, it looks like they're due for another bumper crop.

Amazing what a little water can do in the desert . . .

Day 74 - Forest

This broken tree had so many different textures going on, plus the depth of field was dramatic.

Day 66 - Pescadero

This was the moss that was growing on all the trees.

Day 63 - Pescadero

This monstrous redwood had been split nearly in two by lightning, and was hollowed out and charred from the ground to its top, but yet was still alive. I'm standing inside, four feet or so below ground level, shooting straight up between the two halves.

Day 62 - Pescadero

Unlike other tree bark, the redwoods' is very soft and almost spongy.

Day 61 - Pescadero

Shooting up in the redwood forests of Pescadero, almost all the trees had a thick carpet of moss.

Day 364 - Trees

In Stuart Little, the title character pays seventy-six cents for a genuine birch bark canoe. Birch park peels off the tree in sheets, is waterproof, and can be used to write on.
